Essendon are set to be a very active player in this year's trade and free agency period if reports are correct.

Herald Sun reporter Jay Clark has revealed the Bombers are keeping a very close watch on Gold Coast's Jack Martin and Brisbane Lions forward Lewis Taylor.

Martin has struggled to live up to his potential at the Gold Coast Suns, with many describing Martin as the best young player to come through the system before joining the competition.

However, at times this season, Martin has flourished in the struggling Suns side and has recently seen him be moved from his normal forward line position, into the half back line, in an attempt to get his confidence up.

The Bombers are also said to be keen on Lewis Taylor, who has found himself in and out of the side this year, despite the form of the Brisbane Lions.

The 2014 NAB RIsing Star winner, who does hail from Victoria, is yet to sign a new deal with Taylor's management and the Lions reaching a stalemate regarding his contract, with Taylor wanting a three year deal.

Despite the interest from the Bombers, Taylor has indicated he has no desire in leaving the Brisbane Lions.
