Essendon will be without veteran defender James Gwilt for the rest of the season after the 29 year old required surgery on a knee injury he suffered against the Tigers last Saturday.
Gwilt has been heavily criticised by some of his own supporters, however has been stacked against some of the best in the competition in a trying year for the Bombers.
What Gwilt's injury does do, is open the door for exciting top ten draft pick, Aaron Francis to make his debut.
Francis gathered 19 disposals and six marks in the team's three point win over Box Hill on Saturday, in another strong performance.
The 19 year old, South Australian struggled earlier in the season with a calf and quad injury, but has managed to play the last five games in the VFL and show his marking ability, as well as being able to read the play.
