John Worsfold is adopting a more mellow approach to AFL rivals expressing interest in banned Bombers in light of the Western Bulldogs eyeing Michael Hurley.

In June, the Essendon coach called Melbourne's approach to Michael Hibberd "outside the laws of the game" but on Wednesday he recanted, saying he had "over-reacted just a little bit".

"I would expect that it wouldn't just be the Western Bulldogs that are interested in Michael Hurley ... because he's a star player," he said.
