Essendon are yet to decide whether they want draft picks or AFL-ready talent in exchange for disgruntled defender Michael Hibberd.
Hibberd is one of 12 players at the Bombers serving a season-long ban as part of doping sanctions.
The 26-year-old told the Bombers last week he wanted to be traded at season's end.
"We'll have to see what interest there is in Michael at clubs and what they're prepared to say he's worth to them," Bombers coach John Worsfold said.
"We'll go from there.
"I would consider whatever is best for us.
"Right now I couldn't tell you exactly what that is - it may be (draft) picks. It really depends on the names that are associated with any trade.
"It's not my area of expertise."
Melbourne, who will be coached by former Bombers assistant Simon Goodwin next year, are expected to be nominated as Hibberd's club of choice during the off-season frenzy.
